Cathy Rodda
FOUNDER & PRODUCER
Cathy is a Creative Producer of film and television, fiction and factual, with a track record in award-winning feature films, genre, and documentary.
Her first feature, Unfinished Sky, premiered at Toronto International Film Festival, was the 4th highest grossing Australian film of 2008 and was multi-awarded including, for Cathy, SPA (Screen Producers Assn) Feature Film Producer of the Year.
Collaborating through international co- productions, she produced black comedy scifi cult hit and Finnish/German/Australian co-pro Iron Sky (premiered Berlinale 2012, sold worldwide) and Danish/German/Australian action comedy Ved Verdens Ende (2009).
She EP’d NZ relationship dramedy Separation City (2009) and feature documentary Rise of the Eco-Warriors (2014), produced talent accelerator zombie western Bullets for the Dead (2015) and line produced Mark Hartley/ Tony Ginnane thriller Girl at the Window (2022).
She took a four year sabbatical as Investment Manager at Film Victoria and returned to producing in 2020. Her recent feature documentary Bromley: Light after Dark (2023) premiered and was a prize finalist at CinefestOz, won the Documentary Audience Award at Adelaide Film Festival, and released theatrically through Madman in November.
Clare Plueckhahn
PRODUCER
Clare is a producer & director with experience in drama, commercials and documentaries, and is undertaking a 12 month producer placement with Cathartic Pictures supported by VicScreen.
Most recently she produced feature documentary Bromley: Light After Dark - which premiered and was a prize finalist at CinfestOz and won the Audience Award at Adelaide Film Festival in 2023. She has directed Neighbours, 2nd Unit on Ricky Stanicky & Picnic at Hanging Rock & is a household name in the Australian commercial world with a long list of clients including Kotex, Melbourne International Film Festival, McDonalds, Aesop, TAC and The Australian Ballet.
Having started her career as a photographer, Clare has an eye for the visually interesting, the cinematic - evident in her 2019 award winning solo exhibition Running With Wolves. She fell into producing and shooting through her love of and connection to surfing, producing First Love and then as DOP on Uncharted Waters - and still freelances as an underwater cinematographer, with recent credits including Run Rabbit Run, The Clearing & Wentworth.
A strong storyteller with an excellent cinematic eye, her technical skills and experience across camera and producing add depth and breadth to her abilities as a director and as a creative producer.
SOPHIE OVERETT
WRITER, DEVELOPMENT
Sophie Overett is an award-winning writer and cultural producer who is currently developing a number of genre series with Cathartic Pictures.
Her stories have been published in Griffith Review, Going Down Swinging, Overland Online, The Sleepers Almanac, and elsewhere. She won the 2021 Kathleen Mitchell Award, the 2020 Penguin Literary Prize, as well as the 2018 AAWP x UWRF Emerging Writers’ Prize, and her work has been shortlisted for multiple other awards including The Text Prize and The Richell Prize. Her debut novel, The Rabbits, was published by Penguin Australia in July 2021 and by Gallic Books in the UK and US in 2023.
